The brain is the result of time, experience and knowledge. The very activity of the brain is based on past remembrances, whether illusory, actual or accumulated knowledge. And the brain is caught in time; its activity is time-binding. The brain, which is thought, is the remembrance of the past in the present, modifying itself into the future. So the past, the present and the future are a movement in time. The past is the present. There is no question about it; there is no argument or doubt about that. The past is with us always, which is all the recollections, all the anxieties and depressions. All that is there: the racial, the communal, the religious, the social, the economic – all that is the past. That means the brain is the past. The brain is memory, and from that it acts, it thinks, it does all that in our daily life, or what it will do in the future, what it must do in order to adjust itself environmentally and so on – every kind of influence and propaganda, that is the brain, which is a material process. So thought and time are the very essence of the brain. The sensory responses are conditioned by thought. To control our senses is the religious attitude. The senses, when they are controlled, distort the physical organism and the movement of thought. See this fact, that thought and time together are the actual movement of human existence. The future is tremendously important to us, but the future is the modified past. So the future, the past and the present are now. In the now, all time is contained.
