For most of us, the intellect has become extraordinarily important. We have cultivated that instrument at the expense of other instruments. We adore and worship thought, intellect and reason. With the capacity to analyse and dissect, we think we will understand. Do you understand the flower by tearing it apart, or do you understand it when there is no division between the intellect, the ‘I’ and the heart? No division – like when you look at a flower, you look at it completely, with your whole being, not with the intellect alone. So can you try to find out, explore and learn the origin of sorrow? This is a very important question to find out because in that one question, in that one problem, all other problems are included. All problems – economic, social, heaven and hell – every problem is involved in that one marvellous, most profound question.
