The search for the immortal, the permanent, the eternal, is merely a reaction and therefore not valid. A mind must be free of the desire to be certain. Then it can begin to find out if there is such thing as the eternal, beyond time, beyond space, beyond the distance between the thinker and the thing thought about or sought. When one observes all this, one has to have tremendous attention and an extraordinary quality of discipline which comes out of this attention. Such attention has no distraction, no tension, no direction. Every direction, every motive is the result of an influence, either of the past or the present. Out of this attention comes an extraordinary sense of freedom. Only then is the mind capable of discovering. Being totally empty, quiet, still, only then is it possible for the mind to feel that which is, and that which is not. Such a mind is the religious mind. Only such a mind can find out or be in that state of eternality.
